Local nonprofit Catalyst Productions announces a benefit concert, to be held on Saturday night, at Charlottesville’s revered Jefferson Theater. The concert will benefit communities in the South Charleston area of West Virginia effected by the chemical spill. The spill left 300,000 people without safe, clean water. Catalyst Productions is seeking to raise money to continue relief efforts, in addition to raising awareness that the contamination problems have not yet been alleviated.

 

The concert will feature local favorites Dane Alderson Trio, performing at 7:30pm, followed by a set break performance by festival touring band After Jack at 8:30. At 9:00 Jon Stickley Trio will bring its custom sound to the stage at the Jefferson, welcoming audiences into their signature newgrass vibe. At 10:15 After Jack will again take the stage, keeping audiences warm for the arrival of Morgan O’Kane and his Current Band at 10:45. O’Kane returns to Charlottesville from New York, bringing his banjo-driven sound to round out the night. Doors open at 6:30.

 

Catalyst welcomes the partnership of Appalachian Voices in promoting this event. Appalachian Voices, with an office in Charlottesville, is a regional conservation nonprofit organization committed to protecting the Central and South Appalachian region, and is excited to join the Charlottesville community in responding in disaster relief for the South Charleston area. Proceeds from this event will go to provide bottled water, hygienic cleaning products, and non-perishable foods for communities in West Virginia that are still struggling to find water day by day. About Erin & The Wildfire: Erin & The Wildfire has been described as a “local treasure” and their presence continues to grow in Central Virginia. The band met in undergrad at the University of Virginia and have been expanding in the Charlottesville music scene ever since. Erin & The Wildfire released their debut self-titled EP “Erin & The Wildfire,” which features tasty original tunes with well-crafted lyrics and melodic balance. One of the songs, “Best I’ve Ever Been” was also chosen as one of the best songs of the year by WRNR Radio’s LocalMotive Best of 2013. The combination of Lunsford’s soulful and striking vocals with the Wildfire’s groove and intensity provides for a blues and funk-fused performance.

 

About Major & The Monbacks: Major and the Monbacks are the newest torch bearers of the old “Norfolk Sound”, following a long line of musicians with a sound that bridges the gap between the R&B of Gary U.S. Bonds, the rockabilly of Gene Vincent, and the modern garage pop of Dr. Dog to create an exciting brew of rock n’ soul. About Clay Cook: CLAY COOK made the most of recent downtime from touring with Zac Brown Band to record and release “NORTH STAR” in December, debuting #3 on the iTunes singer/songwriter albums chart. The Georgia native attended Berklee School of music with roommate John Mayer where they penned many songs together including the hit “Neon” from John’s first platinum album Room for Squares. Clay has played with such notables as Sugarland, Shawn Mullins, and Marshall Tucker Band before making his eventual home with the Zac Brown Band.

About Moon Taxi: For the members of Moon Taxi, their third album, Mountains Beaches Cities, represents the idea of exploration – searching both the world and themselves for new experiences. The Nashville rock group, who had honed in on a notably compelling aesthetic with their previous album Cabaret, focused on extending the sonic landscape they’d created in earlier recordings, but this time around they amp up the speed and turn up the volume – creating an overall bigger sound.
