Independent Journalism Network

In addition to The DTM, local citizens & journalists have launched their own projects as the news landscape has changed. Please support their efforts!

Charlottesville Community Engagement

Every weekday, I produce a newsletter and newscast that seeks to give you a quick brief on what’s happening in the area in and around Charlottesville. Our community faces many challenges and issues, and my job is to bring you the latest information as gathered from meetings, press conferences, and interviews. – Sean Tubbs, editor. Small Town, Big Crime/The Beat

Small Town Big Crime is a local media organization focused on true crime and criminal justice issues. It’s the project of Charlottesville-based journalists Courteney Stuart, Rachel Ryan, and Jaclyn Piermarini. Our first release is a true crime podcast, Small Town Big Crime: Jens Soering and the Haysom Murders. Our second endeavor is the The Beat, an online news website dedicated to unsolved crimes and original reporting. Learn more and subscribe!

Molly Conger

i do my best to attend every city board, commission, and council meeting on the calendar, along with frequent court hearings & trials related to our ongoing nazi problem. i can’t claim to be a policy expert, but i’m sometimes the only non-press member of the public in the room. i promise to be accountable to my community, plus my content has way more jokes and snarky comments than the local news coverage. – Molly Conger. The Floyd Forum

The Floyd Forum is, for now, a venture of former Floyd Press editor Ashley Spinks Dugan to continue providing valuable service journalism out of Floyd County and the broader New River Valley. Subscribing keeps you up-to-date on happenings at local government meetings, including the Floyd County Board of Supervisors and the Floyd Town Council. Learn more and subscribe!
