Man pulls gun on the DTM…charged with attempted murder

On Monday night, a young homeless man pulled a gun on a couple and has been charged with attempted murder. According to NBC29, 23-year-old Samuel Erik Wheless (pictured) “touched a woman inappropriately” at about 8:15pm near the he 200-block of East Main Street (around the Jefferson Theater), and when a man with her confronted Wheless, he pulled a gun. Police responded and arrested Wheless without incident, it appears.

On July 27, a man was arrested on the DTM for stabbing another man. Four days before that, the DP ran an editorial about how safety has become a real concerns downtown. Do think the DTM has become unsafe?
