First & Main event space to open

In Architecture, business, Real Estate on August 12, 2012 at 10:25 pm

Former Cville Weekly ad rep go-getter Travis Wilburn is opening another DTM venue at First & Main, right across from Hamilton’s. That space has been a mish-mash of things over the years, nothing permanent (although check out the nifty Holsinger photo here–used to be a place called Metropolitan Cafe), but Wilburn tells the DP he plans to open a private event space.

“The building, which is about 3,500 square feet, has housed a variety of businesses and offices over the years but Wilburn said the space hasn’t had a permanent, long-term tenant for several years.

Right now, the building is gutted and crews are excavating the basement. Wilburn acknowledged there’s a lot of work to be done. According to recently filed court documents, the ‘Landmark Hotel’ property on the Downtown Mall has now officially changed hands. “This is an exciting step forward, both for the City of Charlottesville and for those creditors who are owed money,” says Bill Shmidheiser, a lawyer who READ MORE

New hotel for DTM

In Architecture, business, Real Estate on April 24, 2012 at 1:40 pm

No, it’s not the Landmark. A site plan for one of those homey Residence Inns by Marriott has been submitted. The 133-room hotel will go up at the corner of Ridge/McIntire and West Main at 301 West Main and is being designed by Clark Gathright and Dagget & Grigg Architects. The hotel will have structured parking included. No word yet on any timeline for the project. The photo is of the Residence Inn at 1111 Millmont Street.
